It’s the time we dread every year, closed season, no more spontaneous trips for a quick ride on Stealth till March.... what will we do?!
Well if you’re like me and have a Merlin Annual Pass (even if it’s main use is for the theme parks!) there’s actually still plenty to keep you busy throughout winter making the time till Thorpe reopens it’s gates (126 days at the time of writing this... but who’s counting!) fly by, and lots of them are not far from Thorpe Park at all!
The London attractions are great fun, and really easy to get too, a train from Staines takes you straight to Waterloo and from there you’ve got The London Eye, Dungeons, Sealife and Shreks adventure just a few minute’s walk away, personally my favourite is the London Dungeons, the acting throughout the experience is great fun, and there’s the bonus of a couple of rides thrown in too, Drop Dead in particular packs a decent punch for those missing Detonator! If wax works are your thing there’s of course Madame Tussaud’s, the Taxi ride is amazing and they’ve got a decent 4D cinema too!
Chessington World of Adventures Resort
Chessington remain open throughout most of the year with their Zoo only days, over Christmas the park hold their Winters Tail event, this year there will also be a selection of rides available including Vampire! Pass holders do need to purchase an additional ticket pre Christmas but if your happy to visit after Christmas you can get in with your Merlin pass at no extra cost!
The Bear Grylls Adventure
If you’re willing to travel slightly further afield The Bear Grylls adventure up in Birmingham is open throughout the year, whilst not free Standard and Premium Passholders can purchase challenge tickets from just £1! Booking in advance is essential so make sure you check out the available packages at Standard + Premium Merlin Annual Pass tickets | The Bear Grylls Adventure: Birmingham
And plenty more..
Merlin have plenty of midway attractions scattered across the UK, from Legoland Discovery Centre’s to Warwick Castle there really is something for everyone, don’t forget you can also use your Merlin Annual Pass for a variety of discounts at the resort hotels at Alton Towers, Legoland and Chessington, where more often than not you’ll pick up a great price whilst the theme parks are closed!
