Queues. Despite being a common occurrence at all theme parks there are ways to beat them on your visit. Forget Thorpe’s “fancy” methods such as the various Fastrack systems; instead follow this guide to get the most out of your day.
First know the park opening hours. This may seem so obvious but if you know what times the parks open then this can give you an advantage. Sometimes the park opens at 9:30 (most ‘normal’ visitors think it opens at 10) so you get an extra half an hour to experience the rides before the rush. Secondly know what rides are available from the word go. There’s no point running over to Stealth to find it closed. Unavailable rides are often displayed on the parks website and the information boards around the park.
Get to the park early. The first hour of opening is always the emptiest of the day allowing you to get on a lot of rides quickly with minimum queuing. Often it’s a good idea to hit the bigger rides first. These include Colossus, Nemesis Inferno and Stealth. On hot days it’s also advisable to get on Loggers Leap, Rumba Rapids and Tidal Wave quite early as these can get extremely busy when the temperature is soaring.
Catch Lunch early. That way you can not only skip the lunch time queues but you can also experience smaller ride queues whilst the majority of guests are getting stuck into a KFC 3 piece meal. Quite often the larger rides queues will be cut by half between 12-1, the peak lunch hours.
Whilst we understand most guests visit the park for the bigger rides, between 2-3 are the parks busiest hours on park. We suggest leaving smaller rides for these hours as the larger rides are likely to have 30-60 minute queues. Rides like Storm in a Teacup and Flying Fish often in comparison have 5 minute queues. Leaving these rides to this hour gives you a larger impression of Thorpe Park’s rides and experiences.
Often in the last hour of park opening the rides start to empty out as guests make their way home. This is a great opportunity to get on rides you may have skipped on because of long queues. Also remember on closing its not the ride that closes, it’s the queue. So if Stealth has an hour long queue and you jump in at 5:55 you will still get your ride.
