Mawkin Meadow is overgrown, and its said that those who explore it are rarely heard from again. Outsiders aren’t welcome, and The Crows are always watching…

The idea of The Crows was born in 2020, as a group of roaming actors. A large group of scarecrows would wander around the park and at specific points, like scarecrows do, just stand around, motionless. Only when you would least suspect it would they jump into motion. This, along with a scare acting technique knowing as “waxing” (deliberately moving in janky ways) would help create a sinister-looking group, but one that people would love to take a photo with too!

The Crows continued to roam for 2021 Fright Nights, but they also received their own scare zone once darkness fell: The Crows of Mawkin Meadow. Taking up the pathway where Saw Alive once stood, you would wander down a linear route, filled with hay and overgrown trees. The Crows would lurk in the shadows, sometimes blending into their surroundings. And with fake Crows also down the route, it is hard to know where the next actor is.

The scare zone has gone from strength to strength, with the route being lengthened and changed, and storyline added, each year. This was helped in part due to the removal of the Saw Alive queue line. On top of this, the zone features fantastic lighting, audio and smoke effects, giving a really nice secluded feel, even though you are right next to Colossus!

In later years, the zone opens at 3pm, giving a daytime and nighttime experience, allowing everyone to experience it!

The Crows of Mawkin Meadow doesn’t run like a traditional scare zone, in that it is linear and one-way, and guests are batched in in large groups. However, you are allowed to take photos, videos and stop within the zone, so it doesn’t run like an outdoor scare maze either.

All in, this scare zone ranks as one of the best Thorpe have ever done, and each year is consistent, whilst not falling into the trap of being predictable!
