Work Taking Place on Amity Beach

The larger side of Amity Beach is being dug – what could this mean?

After closing for the season earlier this week, a digger has appeared on the larger side of Amity Beach, with some parts of it being slightly dug up. It is not clear why the park are doing this as of yet, but is not standard winter maintenace for the beach.

Opening in 1991, alongside Depth Charge, Amity Beach has been a staple view for guests visiting the park, getting a panoramic view of it when you leave the Dome. Upon opening, the area had water features and slides, and a set of larger sides – Wet Wet Wet – were added in 1998. The slides were removed during the 2021/22 closed season, after being left unused for the 2021 season.

With the change from a small family park to one of Europe’s most thrill-focused theme parks, the beach’s usage has dwindled, although remains a sought-after attraction for guests with young guests. The space has regularly been used for Fright Nights over the years, with mazes such as The Curse (small side), Se7en (large side) and The Big Top (both sides) being housed there, as well as the fire and light show Legacy.

If the park have decided to remove the beach, it would open up the entrance area further. This would create a nicer atmosphere prior to ride opening each morning, give hotel guests more space to explore in the evening, and also potentially allow for a permanent entertainment and event space, with a stage, to be set up. Equally, if the park are deciding to give Amity Beach some TLC, this would be welcome for younger guests and also the general view of the park.

It is worth noting that all of the pumping and cleaning equipment, feeds in through the smaller side of Amity Beach, which currently remains untouched. It is, therefore, possible that the park could remove the larger side of the beach for a new project, and retain the smaller side.

We expect that any work being done now will be for the 2025, so watch this space to see what happens!
