Celebrate the legacy of Thorpe Park’s Fright Nights event with this fire and light show!
To commemorate Fright Nights’ 20th anniversary, the park introduced Legacy – a fire and light show to a scale the park had never tried before. With a huge structure built on the large side of Amity Beach, this served as the centrepiece for a display of fire and light, accompanied by a soundtrack based on previous Fright Nights attractions. The show returned for the 21st anniversary, on the smaller side of the Beach, and also featuring a screen showcasing visuals.
2021 Version
The 2021 version of Legacy was a smörgåsbord of Fright Nights audio, featuring references to attractions over the previous 20 years. The lighting and fire effects were timed with the audio. There was no story throughout the show, instead focusing on just providing as much audio, lighting and fire as possible.
2022 Version
The 2022 version of Legacy was slightly more story-driven. With the screen in place on the structure, the show was introduced by The Locksmith character (who was the main character for the marketing of Fright Nights in 2022), who would unlock different doors to different fears. Each unlocked door was related to an attraction at the 2022 event, and was accompanied by fitting popular music, rather than the maze’s own bespoke audio. The finale did include references to old attractions
In each case, the amount and quality of the lighting, fire and smoke effects cannot be understated. And, simply put, any fire and light show will always be amazing. But Legacy suffered slightly from not being able to translate its aim to its execution to capturing an audience. This muddled identity crisis meant people didn’t know what to expect and got a bit lost with what was happening. But anyone who did know what was happening, or who simply took a step back, could see that what was happening was amazing!
Legacy has hopefully paved the way for the park to continue with these effects-based driven shows!
